About the event
Healthcare workers in Haiti interact with children, youth and families every day in hospitals, vaccine clinics, malnutrition programs, community education campaigns and in crisis situations.
Their work is an extraordinary piece of the puzzle with potential to strengthen and preserve families. In a country riddled with infrastructure challenges and mounting concerns over importation of medications, the struggle to pay for and access treatments is a daily concern for Haitian households.
Stigma, lack of access to medication for chronic or accute illness and the poor coverage of medical facilities around the country cause breakdowns in family life that increase the risk of child abandonment in hospitals, separation of families in the search for medical access and in worse case scenarios result in families giving up children into seemingly “better” orphanage or restavek situations.
If your organization is implementing any form of healthcare in Haiti, please Join the Haiti Family Care Network for a presentation from speakers experienced with the intersection of healthcare and family life. There will also be time for open questions and discussion.
