Most children are separated from their families due to poverty (lack of access to resources such as food, medical care, and education). Orphanages have been used as the solution to meet the needs of these children, but an orphanage can never replace family.
Why does this happen?
Momentum has been building in a shift away from using orphanages as the only or best option to meet the needs of vulnerable children. Children are being reunited with their parents, as families are being strengthened and supported.
Believing that all children deserve the opportunity to thrive in families, the Haiti Family Care Network serves as a hub for collaboration and resource sharing among organizations working with children, youth, and families in Haiti.
